structure of exam
Candidates can sit for the exam at one of two levels: Basic or Higher; exams can be taken by participants of foreign language courses and self-learners alike. The scope of the subject matter is determined by syllabi which are a component of educational programmes for adults.
All language skills are assessed in the exam which has both written and oral parts and candidates are awarded a grade based on the results of both parts.
At Basic Level, candidates must prove that they can:
- understand and use familiar expressions in simple everyday situations;
- understand the main and relevant or interesting pieces of information in less demanding written and spoken texts on general topics;
- understand and interact in conversations on everyday topics;
- produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest and simpler compositions.
At Higher Level, candidates must prove that they can:
- understand and use familiar expressions in complex everyday situations;
- understand even more complex authentic written and spoken general and topical texts of different genres;
- understand interlocutors well and are capable of interacting in a spontaneous and fluent conversation on subjects from everyday life;
- clearly express their views and argue them in different forms of written texts.
